If I live in North Carolina but did my estate plan in another state do I need to redo it?

If you had all of your estate planning work done in another state, it is important for you to have those documents reviewed by a North Carolina Estate Planning Attorney.  This is because your estate will be probated in the state where you had your residence at the time of death. Since the rules of probate administration and trust administration are different from state to state, your estate plan is likely not to offer the legal protections you desire. This may not necessarily mean drafting an entirely new plan, but at the least a few amendments or modifications will be needed. Whenever you move out of state, definitely make it a priority to have your document reviewed by an attorney specializing in estate planning.
